Samuel Jackson Holmes was a proponent of eugenics. We do not believe those concepts hold any weight and don’t condone such reprehensible nonsense. The horrors people endured due to eugenics was abominable and such things can not ever be tolerated in human society. As such, we do not vouch for the character nor support the ideas of Mr. Holmes and chose to include some of his writing—that does not directly speak of eugenics—to show what some of the prevailing theories were in the late Victorian and early Modern periods, especially those that were printed in widely-distributed scientific periodicals.
